Gregory Smith • Executive Director

Greg Smith has served as the Executive Director of the Florida Literacy Coalition since 2002. Prior to joining the Coalition, Greg served for 13 years as Executive Director of the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, Virginia’s oldest and largest community based literacy organization.  He holds a Master’s Degree in Adult and Continuing Education from Virginia Tech and currently serves on the Adult Education Cabinet of the Florida Department of Education, ProLiteracy America’s Public Policy Committee and as Chair of the Council of State Organizations.  Greg, his wife and two children live in Casselberry Florida.

Annie Schmidt • Resource Specialist

Annie Schmidt is the Statewide VISTA Supervisor and Resource Specialist for the Florida Literacy Coalition. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies and Peace, Social Justice and Conflict Resolution from DePaul University. Before joining FLC, Annie interned at several immigrant and refugee organizations in Chicago. She has also worked on social media campaigns for Florida Leads, YNPN Orlando, and Obama for America. In her spare time you can find her biking and attending local shows.

Jessica Ward • Education and Training Coordinator

Jessica Ward is the Education & Event Coordinator for the Florida Literacy Coalition. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Oregon State University. After graduating she was accepted into Teach for America, which placed her in Jacksonville, Florida to teach at a low-income school. While in Jacksonville, she taught middle school science for three years. She is currently pursuing her Master’s of Public Administration and a Nonprofit Management Certificate from the University of Central Florida. In her spare she enjoys cooking, reading, and being outdoors.
Camille Davidson AmeriCorps*VISTA

Camille Davidson is currently a graduate student studying International Higher Education and Nonprofit Management. She has been involved and employed in the fields of special education, disability, ESOL, and higher education for the past 10 years. Camille completed her Bachelor's degree in Special Education at the University of North Florida and her Master's Degree in TESOL at the University of Miami.
John Sanchez AmeriCorps*VISTA

John grew up in New York and graduated from Stony Brook University with a B. A. in Music and in Spanish Language & Literature. John has combined his interests in literacy education and nonprofit organizations as an AmeriCorps VISTA with FLC. Prior to joining the FLC team, John has held internships with the New York Police & Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund and the One Percent for Culture Campaign as well as having served as a volunteer adult literacy tutor. In his free time, he enjoys bikes, books, and board games.

Maribeth Buie • Health Literacy Coordinator

Maribeth, a native Floridian, received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Health Education and Maternal & Child Health from the University of South Florida.  She also received her MPH in Health Education from USF and her MS in Pathology from the University of Florida.  Prior to joining FLC, Maribeth has worked developing a statewide social advertising campaign evaluation, co-writing an IRB tutorial regarding ethical research involving children, and conducting behavioral research related to an HPV diagnosis.   In her free time, she enjoys exercising, baking, and reading.

Danielle Philippe Bookkeeper

Danielle Philippe joined the Florida Literacy Coalition in December 2011.  Danielle holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Florida, and a Master’s in Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University.  She has an interest in non-profit management and public policy, and seeks to utilize her skills to help support organizations focused on building communities and people.  It is these interests which have brought her to the Coalition.  Prior to joining the team, Danielle worked in the private sector helping small businesses and start ups in a financial and/or managerial role.  She has worked with a variety of different organizations, and continues to do so on a contract basis.  When she is not working, Danielle enjoys spending time with friends and family, and as a former musician, loves to attend live concerts and performances.

Jennifer Calderon Referral Specialist

Jennifer Caldron is the Referral Specialist at the Florida Literacy Coalition. She grew up in Southern California where she graduated from Cerritos College with an A.A. in Business. She has a passion for education and enjoys helping others succeed. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending time with friends, family and teaching her dog new tricks.

Amanda Terrell Events Intern

Amanda grew up in south Florida. She s a student at the Rosen School of Hospitality Management at UCF and plans to graduate this year with Bachelor degrees in Hospitality Management and Event Management. She has worked her way through school in a family owned pharmacy as a technician and as an event intern at the American Lung Association.  Amanda is a part of the UCF swim club, where she holds the position of meet coordinator. If she is not in the pool or working on a project, you will find her at the beach or on a boat enjoying water sports and the Florida sunshine.
