Position: Literacy Referral Specialist/Administrative Assistant
( 30 hours per week)

Responsibilities: 

  1. Answer telephone phone calls and provide Hotline callers with information about local adult education and literacy programs. Mail callers printed information about programs and provide program with data about callers.  English and Spanish language. 
  2. Update and maintain FLC data base on Access.  Do reports and queries in Access.
  3. Return voice mail messages each morning, English and Spanish.
  4. Pick up mail from on-site post box, sort mail and distribute.
  5. Process, mail and maintain records on requested materials.
  6. Organize and maintain FLC storage areas.
  7. Maintain Resource Center Clearinghouse materials and fill requests for ordered materials.
  8. Maintain adequate levels of postage, supplies, and materials; keep organized in office and storage room.
  9. Place newspaper ads for Hotline and assist with other outreach efforts as needed.
  10. Generate state reporting information as needed.
  11. Provide general administrative support such as word processing, photocopying, faxing, mailing etc.
  12. Represent FLC at booth for conference, answering questions and distributing information.
  13. Help with special projects and perform other tasks as assigned. 

Requirements:

  • Well organized, good communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Good basic computer and clerical skills.
  • Experience working with data bases a plus.
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.


Position: Program Assistant Position

 

The Adult Literacy League in Orlando , FL seeks a Program Assistant to help deliver services to adult students & maintain database, some nights.  Assist in recruiting, assigning and recording the activities of all instructional volunteers and assist in organizing special events, trainings, and projects.

HS Diploma or GED & Spanish required, literacy experience preferred.

Position: AmeriCorps*VISTA Project Coordinator (4 Positions)
Member Assignment Description

  • Assist in the development/implementation of a program marketing plan.
  • Develop and distribution volunteer and student recruitment materials.
  • Contribute to organizational newsletter as needed.
  • Assist in researching and writing grant proposals
  • Research and develop a list of donor prospects
  • Assist in securing cash and in-kind support.
  • Attend Florida Literacy Coalition Literacy Ambassador or VALUE Core Leadership Training
  • Research ways adult learners may contribute to the program.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a plan to include adult learners in program support activities.
  • Research and work with program staff and volunteers to enhance organizational capacity in key program areas (see work plan)
  • Staff program booth or otherwise represent literacy organization at community events.
  • Identify potential partners to work with program to advance community literacy efforts.
  • Assist with other special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  1. Good oral and written skills
  2. Good organizational skills
  3. Basic computer skills
  4. Commitment to supporting literacy

Living Stipend: $865 month

Position: Associate Organizer

Organization: DART was founded in 1982 to assist in the development of strong, congregation-based, grassroots community organizations committed to democratic principles and values of justice and fairness. The DART Network currently consists of 21 affiliates spread throughout Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky, each with their own leaders, staff, funding base and accomplishments toward justice at the local level. DART has fought and won across the country on a broad set of issues like joblessness, access to health care, living wage and job source agreements, police misconduct, improved public education, quality affordable housing, fair immigration practices and dozens of others.

Description: The role of the Associate Organizer is to challenge and support leaders in building the power of the organization and their institutions, so that they can more successfully transform our communities. The work of the organization can be categorized into the following four areas: leadership and staff development, issues, structure and fundraising.

Locations: Associate Organizer positions are currently available in Miami, West Palm Beach, Lakeland and Tallahassee, Florida.

Qualifications: Candidates must have completed a relevant training program, graduated from the DART Organizer Institute, or have professional organizing experience related to community union, electoral, or advocacy organizing. Also s/he must present a sincere passion for justice and community organizing. Our positions are limited to those who see this as a professional vocation, not just a job. Candidates must display a workmanlike diligence, be driven to produce sustained results, have proven capacity to build relationships of trust, create and execute a plan, act professionally, feel comfortable working with congregations, be accountable and willing to hold others accountable, demonstrate disciplined thought and action, and work in a team setting. Associate Organizers must also have a car. People of color are encouraged to apply, and in some cases Spanish language abilities may be necessary.

Salary & Benefits: $30,000-35,000 starting salary (depending on location and experience) including paid vacation and holidays; Full health coverage including sick days; Paid mileage of $.32/mile for work-related travel (e.g. to and from One-to-One meetings); Salary increases to be determined and negotiated by Lead Organizer and Board of Directors (typically after a 6-12 month probation period is completed satisfactorily, and annually based on specific performance indicators).
